Promotion of products of iPhone users use technology based on wireless location iBeacon Apple is a fine line, as professional sports teams try to provide useful information to the fans to sell more goods without disturbing and annoying them.

Achieving the right balance has been a problem for the National Football League, Kraft Sports Group and based in Boston, both of whom spoke on GigaOm iBeacon adoption of Apple technology. Sports teams expect iBeacons allow them to sell more goods and services guidance to interested users, but also realize that overdoing it could potentially turn customers off completely iBeacon based marketing.

“I do not want to flood the client with ads,” said Jessica Gelman, vice president of customer marketing and strategy for Kraft Sports Group, which operates the New England Patriots and their stadium, Gillette Stadium. “It’s no different from the problems they have with marketing spam today -. How to make the timely, relevant information and not obnoxious”

In its current form, iBeacons require some level of user effort in order to start working. For example, a user must have installed a specific application connecting to local stations, and must have Bluetooth enabled and appropriate notifications.

To encourage fans to install applications and commit, the NFL is providing content to entertain fans during commercial breaks and halftime. In one example, the league is trying to allow fans the opportunity to participate in the halftime show if they register for the game.

iBeacons using Bluetooth Low Energy technology to communicate with iPhones in the vicinity, allowing localization functions. For example, Apple uses in its own stores iBeacons to keep users abreast of developments within the store, offering easy access to comment, and even allows users to see their iPhone upgrade eligibility or pick up your online order.

Outside Apple retail, sports stadiums have been among the early adopters iBeacons, including meaningful use of the NFL and Major League Baseball. Some uses of the technology include security updates, based on the location of points of interest and recreational interest Stadium, and even ordering concessions.

Due to the characteristics iBeacon require the installation of a third party application, Apple plans to make installation easier options available this fall with the release of iOS iOS 8. 8 users can view the recommendations of location-based applications directly from iPhone lock screen quickly install features for nearby businesses.

Aislelabs, a company based in Toronto that provides analysis and solutions in shops for building mobile shopping experiences, today released a report that examines how Bluetooth iBeacon battery technological impacts on Apple iOS vs Android devices. The study found that the framework iBeacon Apple first introduced with iOS 7 to make iOS developers take advantage of Bluetooth beacons for sending notifications based on location, actually works better with Android, at least when is the battery life:

From the table it is clear that Moto T represents the best performance of the battery. Comparing Nexus and iPhone 5 5 family (which has about the same generation chipsets BLE) the low number of beacons, we note that Nexus 5 is better (less) battery consumption. As the number of beacons increases the battery consumption becomes similar … Moto G, and new Android phones are extremely energy efficient using iBeacons. We believe that this comes from sampling lighthouse BLE chipsets used by these phones.

The report also shows that the newer iPhones work much better than previous generations probably due to a more efficient newer models that has been optimized for technology Bluetooth chip:

Table 1 shows the iPhone 4S consumes the most battery and iPhone 5S is the most optimized (new phones are more optimized chipset). As the number of markers increases, the phone uses more battery. With one headlight, and continuous exploration, 4S uses 5.75%, while the 5S battery uses additional battery of 4.25% compared to the baseline. As the number of beacons increase to 10, the extra battery drain for 4S and 5S becomes 11% and 4.75%. Obviously the new iPhone 5S consume only half of the battery compared to the 4S model when there is a 10 beacons nearby.

While Android devices seem to win when it comes to the battery life in most of the scenarios in the experiment, the report notes that Apple has a slightly different approach to the way it allows iOS to find beacons compared to Android . “Android enables scanning of all beacon signals in the background, but iOS restricts background search for a set of prespecified iBeacon identifiers (UUID).” This approach provides savings modest battery life compared to the method of Android in some cases, but the report says the latest Android devices application automatic sampling headlights are generally more efficient:
”

Moto G, and new Android phones are extremely energy efficient using iBeacons. We believe that this comes from sampling lighthouse BLE chipsets used by these phones … Apple allows the developer to manually specify a list of marks to search as an attempt to save battery. Moto G on the other side makes automatic sampling without imposing a burden on the application developer.

The report makes clear that the experiment used continuous scans every second, but the results of real-life fall somewhere below 1% for all devices with average daily usage. “Note, while draining the battery for the iPhone 5S may seem very high in our experiments, this is not the case in real life. In our experiments, we are doing a browse every second for an hour, a sensible application real-life background scans are much less frequent in daily. iBeacon consumer applications should be no more than 1% over a period of 12 hours in real life situations.

Mobile coupons SnipSnap Company is increasing its efforts based on location in a new pilot with department stores Lord & Taylor.

The launch of City Center is using iBeacon – technology that allows Apple iOS apps are location-based notifications via Bluetooth – to send to specific buyers Lord & Taylor promos depending on where they are in the store, said CEO Ted Mann SnipSnap. If a user is walking SnipSnap by Michael Kors area of the department store, for example, the lighthouse a push notification to the phone that person be fired. Could be an advertisement for the sale of Michael Kors coupon or special Michael Kors.

The program is being tested in five stores Lord & Taylor and five stores of the Hudson Bay located in Canada. There are about 25 beacons, manufactured by Boston-based swirl around each store, Mann said.

iBeacon not be the new approach SnipSnap, Mann said. It’s that the company wants to be able to support this technology for its retail partners. Lord & Taylor is one of the retail partners over 40 SnipSnap, SnipSnap paid every time one of their coupons are redeemed. Here’s how the launch more than your income, Mann said.

SnipSnap has been offering location-based customers since its launch services, but has been experimenting with new technologies in the past year. He began to use the technology “geofencing” last fall, which allows a phone to store data on the exact forms of the malls and corresponding coupons sent when a user is near a shopping center. SnipSnap is using this technology with all the “main level shopping centers” around the country, Mann said.

There was a lot of interest surrounding iBeacons Apple when they launched alongside iOS 7 to the end of last year, but since they are still in the early stages of implementation, we have not seen any data regarding its effectiveness. Advertisers said the iBeacons potential as a new platform was huge, and now we are finally starting to see the results. 9to5Mac shares a report InMarket, a company currently installed iBeacons in grocery stores, which illustrates the point perfectly advertisers.

Using Brands Hillshire example, InMarket announced the intention of buying American Craft link sausage company 2ox increased after installation of iBeacons, representing a “500% increase over the average of GPC’s commitment ads mobile. ”

We started experimenting with location-based and more focused on mobile technologies a year ago, recognizing that the location is key to working with our consumers, “said David Ervin, director of integrated marketing for Hillshire Brands.

Having identified that the goal of American Craft Link sausages consumers were less likely to bring traditional print coupons and redeem in stores, Hillshire, BPN and designed a mobile campaign InMarket first that the beacon and leverage technology to identify potential customers geofence in-store and serve you relevant and timely information that could be used immediately to the store. Consumers were warned American Craft in the store, and they were given the opportunity to add the product to your shopping list, earn points for participation with the product or coupons for purchase.

There was also a marked increase in brand awareness and sales in general throughout the American Craft iBeacon campaign. Within 48 hours, mobile ads had already attracted 6,000 commitments in stores. Needless to say, countless other brands will be impatient to include iBeacon campaigns in their marketing strategies, whether these results remain consistent.

Unravel based in Vancouver, recognizes that our most demanding world-content, consumers are often bombarded with irrelevant content-content that is coming due or are calling an unlikely action. This kind of commitment are useless for brands and businesses and are annoying to everyone.

The old paradigm is that it was up to the mark to attract and nourish consumers to reach as far and wide as possible, but Unravel is allowing consumers to know the content and half of the data.

Using technology developed by iBeacon Estimote, Unravel is creating a new way for companies to communicate with the public. People with the app on your smartphone Unravel one day walk to a restaurant and instantly see the menu or approach a movie poster and get the closest theater and show time.

Unravel offers three different models of content on your dashboard: “Welcome” link on web page to be displayed as a browser, the image to tell a story through mobile swipe and a simple message, such as

“One great thing about this is that when you leave a place, not content to leave all that behind,” says Amit Aujla, cofounder of Unravel. “All content is compiled in [Unravel] feed, so if there was something you were interested in appearing on the phone, you can return to it later.”

Once the “indicators” have been implemented in a given location service, will be able to operate in three different areas: immediate (one meter), intermediate (five meters) and far away (25 meters).

“The main thing will be used by the companies will be the immediate area,” Daniel Khatkar cofounder Unravel, Techvibes said, “because when you start going to the widest range, the radius becomes very large. Whether you are in the other side [of a company] may not necessarily want to be there to receive information. ”

Unravel is not only using the iBeacon to send messages and attract customers, there are a lot of great data that can come from such a little device. The iBeacon can measure temperature and evaluate the number of jobs in an area for a period of time. All these data can be a tool for companies such as transport, retail and event services costumer seeking optimal and internal performance.

Unravel currently preparing to host a series of hidden in collaboration with established companies. Participants will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the new technologies and have the opportunity to win gift cards and tickets to events. The application will be available soon in the App Store and the treasure hunt is set to start in August.

“With the treasure hunt, we want to show people how the technology works,” said Khatkar. “It’s an opt-in technology, but want to use it, at least they will know the purpose of the technology and what it is.”

Unravel offers brands and advertisers a broad platform to inform, promote and maintain contact with consumers. The scavenger hunt is the initial step to Unravel to gain traction, but the potential looks promising for this young company as we continue to educate the newly discovered iBeacon value.

“I want companies to come in contact with other companies and say, ‘I want to advertise on your Beacon in your store,'” said Khatkar. “Or if I’m an advertiser and want to contact Uber or a taxi company and put a Beacon there-on the basis of which will have a target audience demographics-then.”

Beacons could soon become the best friend of a Retail, helping to collect consumer data and interact with buyers. The location-based technology can be used to activate functions in smart phones of customers, including specific coupons, store maps, hands-free payment options.

How To beacons work?

Beacons are small wireless devices that constantly emit radio signals to nearby smartphones and tablets. Mobile applications can pick up these signals, which trigger actions based on the location.

What is a iBeacon?

iBeacon is Apple’s version of a lighthouse and is an off-the-shelf option for retailers. Apple has filed papers with the Federal Communications Commission, suggesting to be manufactured hardware, however at this time, iBeacon is integrated into the latest version of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system 7 and system.

As it stands, allows iPads and iPhones iBeacon to constantly scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. When iBeacon identifies a lighthouse, you can wake relevant applications on the phone with someone, even when an application is closed and not running in the background. In addition, iPads and iPhones can act as beacons; issuable beacon signals for applications in awakening other iOS devices.

Rooted in the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology iBeacons Apple are already proving to have more potential in terms of real world application and absorption. First, the range of NFC is small. That’s the point; you have to physically “touch” to connect. The range for iBeacons is up to 50 meters, however, the accuracy reported to be outstanding. Before iBeacons devices relied on GPS and Wi-Fi triangulation to pin point a location. iBeacons to place a few meters using BLE (Bluetooth low energy) – a smarter version of Bluetooth which is not affected by physical barriers and uses almost no battery life.

What Beacons Mean for Retailers?

While NFC retailers offered the novelty factor, which does not meet a genuine need. IBeacon However, for the first time, offers retailers a simple and cost effective way to connect with customers – not only as they walk through the door, but as they browse, queuing for a service or make a purchase in fact. iBeacon can be used in multiple ways; to connect with clients and welcome them to the store, to send coupons and discount codes to engage with them on social networks and other online networks or payment for goods. iBeacon has the potential to help with marketing, customer retention, data collection and sales.

Although very soft launch of Apple, iBeacons are causing a stir among retailers, with some already rolling technology in stores. Lord & Taylor Stores in the USA and select retailers Hudson Bay in Canada will be launching iBeacons in store in the coming weeks, to provide information to customers in the future of shopping. Users will need to have the corresponding application pre-loaded on your iPhone or iPad to see the notifications.

So is this the future of shopping? One thing seems clear: the battle for space mobile location-tracking is turned on. Some ideas are half. As iBeacons? Many will be watching the Apple turnover. Again, they seem to steal the spotlight.

Mall owner and manager Simon is expanding its use of technology iBeacon Bluetooth compatible shopping destinations to create more than 200 in the United States and help retailers brick and mortar shopping experience evolve.

Deployment of Mobi-Beacon Simon mobiquity, network already in place in 75 of its shopping destinations first class offers a unique opportunity to opt-in for customers to engage with retailers, brands and applications centers commercial for the timely and contextually relevant personalized news, information and offers real experiences -Time. Operation of retailers mobiquity network locations Simon malls are able to reach many buyers each week on their mobile phones.

“Beacons are unique in their ability to provide real-time location data hyper-accurate indoor applications,” said James Meckley, director of marketing with mobiquity Networks. “Given that the technology was only introduced in mid-2013, I think the level of interest shown by the retail industry is remarkable.”

“Because of that campaigns using beacons actually require a triple-opt-in, it is essential that advertisers are the customer experience at the forefront of any engagement. Y Selling brand applications that do not provide valuable experiences to their users quickly find the services disabled.

The competitive advantage
With aerodynamic applications, websites and highly intuitive features same day shipping on widely available, retailers are struggling to increase foot traffic in the store. Smarter store that could replicate e-commerce experiences in a physical environment, it is now possible through beacons.

Beacons have potential in loyalty programs, payment, point of sale and help a retailer to do battle with both offline and online competitors.

Last October, Bloomingdale campaigned in two malls Simon with the aim of creating awareness for your Loyallist rewards program that allows shoppers to earn points for every dollar spent. Consumers were offered a high-definition video that explains the program and how to participate Loyallist over a four week period during which 74 470 were carried devices to download content, 7.2 percent have opted in and, of those, 75 percent committed to the content.

Browse hallway store with the help of an application accompaniment is a reality for American Eagle Outfitters, Staples, and Nordstrom, are using mobile devices as an intermediary to communicate offers and analyze patterns of digital purchase.

“Importantly, beacons and mobile apps go hand in hand,” said Mr. Meckley. “Applications ‘search’ for known beacons, and buoys, in turn allows applications to determine very accurately some key parameters: where they are, what is around them and what action should be initiated by each application taking into account the real-time. ”

“The more we understand about an application environment real-time user, the more likely the application will be able to offer an experience that is relevant and valuable.”

Some stores are already installing kiosks and screens mirrors that double as a response, as seen in Burberry. The use of technology Kinect type motion detection and 3-D photography, buyers may one day be able to stand in front of a mirror and try things smart about using an application of digital locker. Screens can detect intelligent metrics on browsing habits and purchase patterns to provide personalized recommendations and evaluate product designs.

Mobiquity program expansion through a wider range of Simon malls are expected to Premium Outlet centers and Mills to be completed by the spring of 2015.

actually replicate
Companion apps for tracking lighthouse attached to are also being used by retailers to increase sales and cross-selling items, and personalize the shopping experience. Macy empowers the client with the Shopkick application ShopBeacon driven service. Customers browse a store with your phone, and the app offers deals via notifications depending on the location. Notifications are customized according to specific departments and sections of the store. Similar services are being implemented in Safeway and Giant Eagle supermarkets nationwide.

But there is a counter narrative that suggests that consumers are going to be afraid of the seemingly omniscient presence of beacons as they shop, increasing security and privacy concerns that can hurt adoption.

Most people feel less comfortable with their movements outside line is tracking their online movements, according to a recent Pew report, indicating that while many smart phone users want to use your phone to navigate, most do not want navigation capabilities of your phone so that I was used to target them.

To provide value to both the merchant and the consumer, companies need to design a winning experience.

Once a brand understands how to strategically use technology without disturbing lighthouse buyers, retailers can create physical experiences are so compelling and immersive that the very idea of heading to a retail store is a looked forward to event.

“The reason we have not seen larger campaigns can probably be attributed to the relative complexity of the implementation of the campaign,” said Mr. Meckley.

“Remember that a lighthouse driven campaign requires an ecosystem consisting of a network beacon physically installed, one or more mobile applications programmed via API or SDK to ‘listen’ to the beacons, and finally, the content and the platform content management to determine the appropriate expertise to provide to the user. ”

“However, once the advertising ecosystem is in place, unprecedented opportunities for retailers and brands to engage their customers with contextually relevant experiences, information and deals on their mobile devices are open,” he said.

Academy of Land Transport, based in Los Angeles, is set to test a new application of technology iBeacon ground services.

Sokolovsky Pauline gave a demonstration of the technology in the GBTA conference this week. The application uses the technology iBeacon inform the traveler of three key pieces of information: the location of the bag of a passenger, the driver location, and the side of the road the car is on.

The company will give a traveler a iBeacon to place on your luggage for part of monitoring the implementation, so that the bag can be monitored closely when waiting at the baggage claim.

The driver will also have a dedicated iBeacon traveler showing an image of the driver’s face and how close the driver is the current position. This eliminates any guessing game about the location of the driver.

The last feature is that the iBeacon allow the traveler to see which side of the car to enter – left or right.

There has been a lot of buzz, including here on Tnooz focuses on airlines and airports, with the potential to iBeacons trips. This is one of the emerging applications to simplify the travel experience using sensory awareness based on proximity.

Tnooz Sokolovsky spoke about the new iBeacon deployment, which is right on the way to being field tested.

Why iBeacons?

Traditional Location Aware Services using GPS technology stop working inside buildings. However, there are still many use cases where localization services make sense Aware inside buildings. Beacons is a technology that can provide these services when GPS signals are unavailable. Also see use case where tracking indicators combined with GPS may provide a solution more end to end.

What has been the customer response so far?

We brought three working prototypes of applications Travel Association Convention 2014 Global Business (GBTA) to test reception App primarily with ground transportation providers. We have received a very positive response.

We also spoke to other travel verticals we believe might be interested in this technology primarily for proximity marketing fulfillment and personalization but also to solve critical operations. In addition to the business, we see many applications of this technology for leisure.

How do drivers feel about it?

We have not field tested the app, but our experience in the trucking industry tells us that drivers will welcome the addition of this technology to help them achieve on-time performance – meet the passenger at the time and reach their destination on time.

Drivers are well aware that if they fail to performance time, which is the controller of the largest customer satisfaction in the vertical ground transportation, you will incur a defect of services, and this factor alone can significantly impact passenger perception of other aspects of service delivery controller and global travel experience.

How this technology to improve the experience of business?

Business travel itineraries often have demanding schedules that must be met to realize the full business value and objectives of the trip. Performance time in the ground transportation industry plays an integral part in meeting schedules.

What is the roadmap for product development?

Today we have a working prototype. In three to six months, we have completed a Release 1 that reflects a strategy of product development, marketing strategy and business plan that includes both business segments and leisure and many vertical travel markets that can benefit from this technology .

We initially focus on small and medium enterprises that may lack the infrastructure and applications to help them solve relevant problems. For these customers we see that the creation of a series of cloud and SaaS-based secure applications that provide a complete solution to your problem.

For Version 2, three to six months of product development will bring a number of services Beacon that are easy to integrate with workflow and more complex operations and evolved systems of large companies in the travel industry will also be interested in these solutions.

Managers luxury restaurants Frankfurt pride to know the names of most of their regular customers.

Soon, they will know favorite diner table, exactly how long they spend in the restaurant, which dish calling for more-and will even know when your pension is in the bathroom.

Restorative Christian Mook, owns 5 restaurants known high level Mook Group is testing an application using Apple technology iBeacon ‘s, which tracks customers in their restaurants.

If it works in one of the restaurants, Mook will roll out to the other four.

The application watches the guests spend time in the restaurant and uses a ranking system to reward them for their loyalty. Mook says that after waiting for tracking indoor location, items ordered and the amount of payment to all customers with an eye toward offering new services and improve existing ones.

Component iBeacon App, which was launched by Apple last year, uses Bluetooth low energy technology to determine a user’s location inside within 5 to 10 inches. Tracking works through pods beacons installed on the site, interacting with the user device as the client is in the range of the restaurant. To run the application, users have to download, but it is not necessary to activate it to enable the tracking started.

From now on, all the information generated by the application are stored in the device of the person but Mook group says it hopes to do more with customer information on line.

“At the moment the application does almost nothing to support our business,” said Feres Ladjimi, Group CEO Mook.

Diners Mook, who on average carapace between € 20 euros, 30 € ($ 26 – $ 40) for a main course, you can use the app to upload your path “Guest” ranking at the “Addicted Connoisseur” based in the amount of time spent in any of the locations in the group. Guests with statements of higher-level applications are rewarded with a welcome drink, automatic placement on the guest list for future events or even entry in the fast lane.

“It will be even more interesting when we get to the next stage and we know the names of the guests, what people eat and drink, how often and when the customer comes in – either for personal reasons or for business reasons, all as a way to improve service, “said Mr. Ladjimi, adding that any access to information would be on a voluntary basis and with the permission of the client.

Germany is an unlikely home for an application using iBeacon technology, such as location-tracking features could worry the citizens in a country historically sensitive about privacy, and angry with the recent allegations of NSA spying.

“We’re still trying to figure out where the boundaries of our target between privacy and intimacy group are,” said Joel Martinez, director of technology CandyLabs, the company that produces the application to Mook.
